Hawke’s Bay Farmer Bruce Goldstone has turned to solar energy as a solution to sky-rocketing fuel and energy prices.
Stock water for his 1100ha, Putorino hill country farm and toilets for a utility shed are powered by an 18 panel, solar run Grunfos pump- fully installed by Isaac’s Plumbing, Pumping and Electrical.
Isaac’s Business Development Manager Sam Riddell said more farmers were seeing the benefit of solar, and seeking their help to implement workable solutions to save money and time.
“In the past few years, we have seen a lot more people inquiring after our kitset solar ePumps, and getting some fantastic results, even in hard to reach areas of farmland,” Mr Riddell said.
“When Bruce and his son Ben approached us about a solution that would allow them to run buildings on solar as well, we had to source a larger pump and panels to handle the job – Grundfos provided the perfect option.”
Solar water pumps have been extremely helpful in El Nino affected summers, allowing farmers to keep stock water troughs full without having to physically check in.
A custom Smart Meter app, supplied by Isaac’s allowed them to monitor daily/hourly stock usage and pump efficiency from anywhere in the world.
Since installing a pump and panels the Goldstone’s had already noticed a difference in time and money spent servicing the system.
