22 Dec Solar at Work: A Smart Investment for Tumu Timbers
When Tumu Timbers came to us with rising electricity costs, we knew solar was worth a serious look.
We designed and installed a full rooftop solar system built around how the site actually operates day to day. The aim was clear: reduce power costs, improve efficiency, and deliver a strong long-term return.
The system is already doing exactly that.
By matching solar generation to Tumu’s energy use, the installation is helping significantly reduce electricity bills and delivering a return that makes commercial sense. It is a practical example of how well-designed solar can work even for a business as energy intensive as Tumu Timbers.
In the video, we are joined on site by Mike Casey, founder of Rewiring Aotearoa and the orchardist behind New Zealand’s first fully electric cherry orchard. He talks with Andrew Cranswick, Operations Manager at Tumu Timbers, about the project and how it is performing. Mike is there to see the system in action and hear directly from the team using it every day.
Andrew shares why Tumu Timbers was open to solar, how the installation process went, and why they see solar as a smart investment not just for their business, but for others considering the same move.
For us, this project reflects what we aim to deliver on every solar installation: clear advice, smart design, and results that stack up in the real world.
If you are considering solar for your business, this is a great example of what can be achieved with the right system, designed properly from the start.
